We are Andrew and Alyssa Mates, a husband-and-wife team with a background in property and finance. By understanding the power of knowing our numbers we became completely debt and mortgage-free in 2022 at the age of 39 years old and now enjoy living life in beautiful Normanville, South Australia.
Andrew left a high-stress corporate career to pursue a career in finance and became a mortgage broker with Aussie back in 2012, but during his time he quickly realised that his passion was helping people eliminate debt, not accumulate it, and promptly left the industry.
Alyssa, a property enthusiast, worked alongside Andrew whilst they developed their personal plan for property and cashflow which ended up becoming their personal finance system that provided clarity, structure, and a clear path to their personal financial freedom.
Since 2009, this system has guided our decisions personally, and since 2018 we have been teaching others our methodologies of how to create their own path to financial independence by providing clarity on their current financial position, future goals, and helping them to implement steps required to achieve them—whether for household budgets, business finances, or preparing to borrow or invest.
Our approach is tailored to you, practical in nature, and focused on your self-reliance, without any third-party apps or subscriptions. Turns out filming a simple introduction isn't quite as simple as it looks.
There were animals. There were people. There was sunshine. There were unexpected interruptions. There were moments where one of us forgot what we were saying halfway through a sentence. And there may have been a few cases of laughing at exactly the wrong moment.
The version that made the cut even includes one little stutter. We considered editing it out. Then we remembered we're human and left it in. If you spot it, congratulations – you've earned yourself absolutely nothing except bragging rights.
We filmed at the beautiful Ingalalla Falls at Hay Flat, South Australia, one of our favourite places to unwind, clear our heads and reconnect with nature. Before landing on the final version, we also dragged cameras, tripods and ourselves around places we love including Rapid Bay and Deep Creek Conservation Park.
Now, this blooper reel was shaping up nicely until nature decided to steal the show.
Halfway through recording, a huge flock of Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo flew overhead. Normally you'll spot four or six if you're lucky. During filming? We reckon around twenty showed up.
Apparently even the cockatoos wanted a cameo.

Working with a couple recently that we helped to generate savings of over $40,000 per year...
That's a massive win.
But it wasn't THE win for the client.
At our last meeting, our client was so happy to mention that they were able to purchase a pair of $95 mocassan shoes to keep their feet warm in winter. They purchased premium. They didn't stress about the cost, they just purchased them because the money was there. Zero guilt.
