Why Do Money Coaches Get Such A Bad rap? money Coaching – It’s What we do!
When Alyssa and I started Adelaide Budgeting 12 months ago, we entered into business with the positivity and passion for helping people from all walks of life obtain clarity and confidence around their household cashflow and to help them save money. We wanted to offer something different, with better value to the consumer, yet with the same goal in mind. To save people money whilst giving them confidence and clarity around their cashflow. We also set a goal to do this in the most affordable way for the consumer, to give consumers the best value service paired with the dollars they spend. We learned very quickly about how to market our message with our marketing mentor and the best way to let the market know we are here; we have arrived; and we provide the best value for money budgeting, spending and savings solution in South Australia.
Social Media can be a tricky way to spread your message even when you are specifically clear. We felt that many of our prospective new clients could potentially be active or already using social media so we thought we would try there first. We had our research complete and knew what MyBudget and other providers on the market are charging and sculpted a product, service and solution which left our clients in full control of their own finances for a fraction of the cost of our competitors. So, we advertised our service fee on social media…… the onslaught was amazing!
“You guys are ripping people off…”
“How do you expect people to pay for your service when they can’t pay their bills…”
Recently we have been joining in online conversations tagging our page to let people know who we are and that we are here to help. The last tag had a troll post to me “hard up on business eh?” Well, no actually… We just want to let people know who we are so the people that need to find us can find us and get the help they deserve and need.
Despite the fact that we educated these trolls and told them that our first appointment is free and there is zero obligation to move forward with our service and pricing structure – even after we have shown you, in full, what we do. They still need to hate and I just don’t get it… I could not believe the negativity from the haters online that couldn’t seem to understand that we are here to help and not rip people off.
So how do you let people know who you are and how you help? Let’s have some Pizza…
Everybody loves Pizza right? So why can the local Pizza bar advertise their pricing online and not get harassed, but when we do we get hounded? Is it instant gratification? Do people see more value in Pizza than budgeting? Probably because Pizza is awesome, but I’m getting off point… Our mentor has said that budgeting isn’t a sexy topic, and it kind-of isn’t… but that doesn’t mean that we cant spread our message to the people that need us, to discover us, to connect with us, so they can live the life they have always wanted does it?
People say… why pay someone when we can do it ourselves. That’s true, you can budget yourself. You could also make pizza yourself, but there are many successful pizza businesses around, so the math just doesn’t add up!
I think there is a very solid understanding about pizza and what people get in terms of “value for money.” The gooey cheese, the delicious soft base (or thin and crispy if that floats your boat) and the splash of flavors like a flavor explosion in your mouth, all whilst bringing people together for amazing experiences. Amazing right? But what about Money Coaching and Budgeting?
Most Mortgage Brokers don’t have the time to help and educate their clients with their cashflow. The same can be said about Financial Planners who mostly look at longer term goals over short term goals. Is this a bad thing? Not at all. It pays to be niche with who you are, what you do and the level of service you provide. Money Coaches stand proud amongst Mortgage Brokers and Financial Planners and other experts in their fields.
Now I know you are probably thinking… Andrew is having a rant, or “he is off his meds.” But it isn’t the case. I really want to let people know what a Money Coach is, and does, even when people say “they can do it themselves” (which they can to some degree), they do not get the skills and qualifications of an expert in their field looking over their shoulder at their cashflow and helping them to save money.
What does an Adelaide Budgeting Money Coach do?
- Initial face to face meeting (mobile service in the comfort of your own home).
- 3 months of phone and email support (typical, base level of service).
- 2 x Accountability sessions via phone and one follow up face to face meeting.
- Ascertain household income from all sources.
- Ascertain household expenses from all providers.
- Review each expense to see if our clients can get a better deal – for example, insurances, electricity, mortgage payments, refinance etc.
- Set key strategies for clients:
- Pay bills on Time.
- Debt reduction.
- Bank account setup.
- “True savings”.
- Miscellaneous savings.
- Grow first home savings deposit.
- Overview of Spending.
- Guidance, coaching and support.
- If needed, direct clients to an industry professional where required for greater support. For example, a mortgage broker to re-finance your loan (as we are not brokers). If we can’t help you we have the network that can ?.
In short, we look at the income and the expenditure of the household and formulate a plan which saves you money each and every single week of your lives! What you will find is that we offer a little bit more than the average slice of pizza! We are highly skilled Money Coaches with a proven system; independent of any other provider on the market; developed by our own Diploma Certified (*Finance and Mortgage Broking) Money Coach Andrew Mates. If the solution delivered to you needs tweaking, we tweak it. We offer a 100% tailor made, customised budgeting, spending and savings solution for all of our clients. Even after all the support we offer, if we can’t help you, we don’t charge you!
We also understand that every client is different. We do not present the same solution for someone looking to make ends meet, to someone looking to purchase their first home as everybodies goals are different. With our background in Finance (Mortgage Broking) we have the skills and understanding in what a lender looks for. Mortgage Brokers at the moment are under immense pressure by APRA to provide evidence of cost of living to lenders prior to any home loan being approved. The value in knowing how to create a budget that makes a lender very happy is part of the skill set we take into each appointment. We know if you are purchasing your first home that we need to get rid of your credit cards, we need to set clear and consistent savings growth and we know you need to show a very clean and clear banking account and setup. We also know that we need to do this in the most simplest of ways to ensure our clients success! We then need to connect you to a Mortgage Broker who best suits you and your own circumstances to help you achieve your goals. If you can do all of this on your own that’s great! If not, we are the best value for money service on the market in South Australia today.
If you get knocked back by a lender for your perfect home because you didn’t do the ground work or “did it yourself,” you would kick yourself right? A broker and a lender that works with our plan will see a savvy consumer that has completed their research, set themselves up correctly, and is ready to take on the commitment of a lifetime making their loan much easier and faster to process. A broker that is working with a broken budget, whilst needing to prove your household expenses when they could be all over the place, has the potential to make a mistake that will set your goals backwards and the lender may reject you based on the fact you can’t provide examples of your expenditure. Whatsmore, if a broker submits a loan request to the lender, and the lender acknowledges your “application of credit” it is marked on your credit report. Imagine if the broker then gets your bank accounts and they are all over the place and the lender says “no”. We help in getting the “basics” ready and set for your success. You can’t build a house without a solid foundation, we can help to set your cashflow foundation for you, with success, clarity and confidence.
We all have our own unique skill set in life. It’s why I (Andrew) don’t pick up a hammer or drill because I would cause myself and others around me severe bodily harm…! It is not my skillset! In saying so, if budgeting is not your skill set or you would like the experience of working with a professional then why not let us guide you, as the experts in our field, to help you achieve your dreams with ease? We can help you ?. It’s as easy as Pizza….
